SIX BASIC POLICIES
There are six basic types of home insurance policies and each is defined by the perils covered:

Fire or Lightning

Vehicles

Windstorm or Hail

Riot or Civil Commotion

Explosion

Vandalism

Weight of ice, snow, or sleet

Glass Breakage

HO-1 (Basic Form)

Covers your dwelling and personal property against losses from 10 types of perils: fire or lightning; windstorm or hail; explosion, riot or civil commotion; aircraft; vehicles; smoke; vandalism or malicious mischief; theft and damage by glass or safety glazing material that is a part of a building.

Falling Objects

Collapse of Building

Aircraft

Theft

Freezing of a plumbing, heating, air conditiong system or household appliance

Smoke, if sudden and accidental

Sudden and accidental damage from artificially generated electrical current (Does not include loss to tubes or transistors)

Sudden and accidental discharge of water or steam from a plumbing, heating or air conditioning system, or household appliance

HO-2 (Broad Form)

Covers dwelling and personal property 10 perils plus seven more: falling objects; weight of ice, snow or sleet; collapse of a dwelling, three categories of water-related damage from home utilities or appliances; and electrical surge damage.

HO-3 (Special Form)

Covers 17 stated perils plus any other peril NOT specified in the policy, except for flood; earthquake; war; nuclear accident; and other perils mentioned in the "Losses Not Covered" section of the policy.

HO-4 (Renters Coverage)

Covers personal property only from 17 listed perils.

HO-6 (Condominium owner coverage)

Covers personal property only from 17 listed perils.

HO-8

Covers dwelling and personal property from 10 perils. Differs from HO-1 in that it covers repairs or actual cash value, not rebuilding costs. This is for homes where some historic or architectural aspects make the homes replacement cost significantly higher than its market value.
